Second grade students have been studying symmetry. We created symmetrical Ming Vases based on a lesson from Miriam at

First students studied Chinese vases and vase shapes found in China. We then created our vases. We colored them with blue oil pastel and then painted over them with white paint. We created 6 designed based on some traditional Chinese design. We used plants, trees, flowers and shapes (organic and geometric). Then once designed were planned, we etched designs into our vases. As an extension, we began to work on symmetrical "kite" designs.
