Pattern Trees, Grade 1

First grade students at BMS and WES learned about pattern.  A pattern is a line, a shape or a color that repeats itself.  Patterns are everywhere...you can even have a non repeating pattern...think of a paisley design.  That can also be classified as a pattern. 

First graders then learned how to draw a tree using the letter Y.  We looked at trees and noticed that their branches come out in Y's and V's.  We took this concept and applied it to our drawings to create realistic looking tree drawings.  In the trunks and branches, we added patterns and colored them in using crayons.  Here are some examples:
