Self Portraits showing Emotion

First grade students at Wood end Elementary and Birch Meadow Elementary School discussed emotion and how you can tell the way someone is feeling.  We decided the best way to tell was by looking at facial expressions.  We then used mirrors to see what we would look like if we were happy, sad, angry or surprised.  We then chose an emotion and drew a self-portrait of us expressing that emotion.  We used mirrors to see our faces.  We spoke about placement of facial features and then began to draw.
When we were finished drawing in pencil, we outlined in black sharpie and used crayon to color in our work.
